Wetheral

Holy Trinity & St Constantine’s, Wetheral

Straddling the River Eden, the historic parish of Wetheral and its church have a fascinating history. The church can trace its origins back to the foundation of a Benedictine monastery in the village about 900 years ago. The present building is one of only a handful of parish churches in England to be named after Constantine. It is the home to probably the finest sculpture in the whole of Cumbria, ‘Faith’ by Joseph Nollekens. Wetheral has always enjoyed sung choral worship and it is currently blessed with a strong church choir. The installation of a screen and projector in 2009 have seen greater creativity and flexibility in the style and content of its services however, not least the Family Service.
