Baptism & Thanksgiving

BAPTISM
We welcome all parents who want to celebrate the birth of their baby with a service of baptism or thanksgiving. Baptism involves the parents and godparents making a number of declarations about their own Christian faith and their intention to bring up the child in that faith. Some parents choose a thanksgiving service to celebrate the birth instead of baptism because the element of commitment is more open (see below for details). Baptisms normally take place as part of a Family Service on the first Sunday of the month.

THANKSGIVING
Should you feel that you are not able to make the promises in the service, but would still like to mark the birth of the child in some way, we also offer a service of thanksgiving. This gives us the opportunity of giving thanks to God for the baby, and asking God's blessing on him / her. This can be arranged outside the main services, to fit in with your wishes. It will consist of some prayers, including prayers of blessing and a short Bible passage and explanation.

It is our great desire that we should do all we can to help parents in the task of bringing up children in today's world. We believe that the best foundation any child can have is the one offered by the Christian faith and we try to provide a lively and friendly environment in which children can begin to understand that faith. Thanksgiving and baptism can be a vital part of that journey of discovery, both for parents and children, and we would count it a great privilege to be involved in any way.

If you would like to talk about or to arrange a service of baptism or thanksgiving please contact the Minister. In addition, you may wish to look at the information booklet we give out to all who enquire about either a baptism or thanksgiving with us by clicking here.
