Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored

  Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus come?
What does it mean to follow Jesus?

For people who would like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. Explore who Jesus is, as he walks off the pages of Mark’s Gospel.

OVERVIEW

Christianity Explored is for anyone who wants to investigate the Christian faith in a friendly and informal setting. Whether you have experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you.

The course runs over seven evenings. Each evening begins at 7.30pm with tea, coffee and cake. After briefly discussing the course material from the week before, there will be a talk and you will then have an opportunity to share your thoughts and ask any questions that may have arisen. Alternatively you may prefer to simply listen, as others talk. It’s up to you. The evening finishes at about 9pm.

Christians count it a real privilege to explain the truth and relevance of the Christian message. We don’t have all the answers but believe that we have exciting news to share about Jesus Christ.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What if I can’t be there every week?
There may be days when you just cannot be present – that’s fine. However, the more you attend, the more you will get out of the course and after the first couple of weeks we hope that you will want to come to the rest of the course, as you make friends with those on your table.

What if I come and I don’t like it?
You are free to stop attending at any stage. If you are uncertain whether the course is for you, then you are welcome to try it just for a week or two.

Do I have to bring anything?
No, you will be given a workbook and if you want one a copy of Mark’s Gospel in an easy to read version. Do bring your own Bible if you prefer.

Is it ‘churchy’?
We hope not. It’s not a church service. There’s no praying, singing or clapping, and you won’t be asked to read aloud.

Am I going to get preached at?

Each evening includes a talk designed to explain an aspect of Christian belief and to stimulate discussion. Hopefully you’ll find it challenging and amusing. The group leaders will facilitate discussion and try to answer questions.

Do I have to speak in the group?
Not if you don’t want to. You are welcome to come and just sit and listen.

I am already part of a church and I know what I believe. Can I still attend the course?
Yes, you are very welcome. You might regard it as a refresher course in the basics of the Christian faith and a chance to bring along friends who may have questions.

Although many people don’t attend church, it doesn’t mean that people don’t pray, believe in God or have genuine questions about faith, Jesus and Heaven.
